AI Unleashed: ChatGPT, Gemini, and the Dawn of Autonomous Evolution

In 2023, the spotlight has undeniably been on artificial intelligence (AI), marked by groundbreaking developments throughout the year. Tech giants Google and Microsoft made waves with the introduction of their AI chatbots, Bard and Bing, while the renowned ChatGPT reached new heights of power with the unveiling of GPT-4. A recent addition to the AI landscape is Gemini, a creation by Google that outperformed ChatGPT in various benchmark tests. Notably, the language model behind Bard is now powered by GPT-4, making it accessible to users worldwide. Perhaps most astonishingly, recent reports suggest that AI has advanced to a stage where it can autonomously generate new, smaller AI tools without human intervention—a development reminiscent of science fiction.

According to a recent report from Business Insider, a collaborative effort between scientists from MIT and the University of California, alongside AI tech company Aizip, has resulted in a breakthrough. Together, they have deciphered a method that enables large AI models to independently create smaller AI counterparts. This innovative approach is akin to a mentorship dynamic, where a larger AI model assists in the development of smaller, specialized AI "sidekicks."

Yan Sun, the CEO of Aizip, disclosed to Fox News that they are leveraging mega AI models, such as those powering ChatGPT, to automatically generate smaller versions. This marks a significant step towards achieving self-evolving AI. Sun emphasized the current utilization of larger models to construct smaller ones, comparing it to a "bigger brother helping [its smaller] brother to improve." This pioneering initiative signals the initial phase in the journey to demonstrate that AI models can autonomously construct and evolve other AI models.
