Samsung, the South Korean electronics giant, made a significant stride in the realm of smart living as it introduced a lineup of home appliances infused with artificial intelligence (AI). The unveiling took place at the ‘Bespoke AI’ event hosted at Samsung BKC in Mumbai's Jio World Plaza. Among the showcased innovations were a refrigerator equipped with AI vision capable of recognizing 33 food items and suggesting recipes, an air conditioner operable through geo-fencing technology, a microwave tailored for diet-friendly cooking, and a washing machine adept at understanding users’ laundry routines to adjust cycles automatically.
These cutting-edge appliances are integrated with Wi-Fi connectivity, smart cameras, and advanced chipsets, facilitating seamless operation for consumers seeking to establish smart homes. Users can monitor and control these devices through the SmartThings application, which also offers timely maintenance alerts and filter change recommendations. Moreover, Samsung’s Bespoke AI appliances feature the Bixby AI voice assistant and are compatible with other voice assistants, enhancing accessibility and convenience for users.
Notably, Samsung emphasizes energy efficiency with its AI Energy Mode, promising up to 10% energy savings in refrigerators, up to 20% in air conditioners, and up to 70% in washing machines. JB Park, President & CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, expressed the company's commitment to fostering smarter living environments while contributing to environmental sustainability by reducing energy consumption.
This latest endeavor builds upon Samsung's ongoing efforts to integrate AI into its array of smart home devices, evident in previous unveilings such as the smart washing machine cum dryer showcased earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Looking ahead, Samsung aims for a significant revenue shift towards AI home appliances in India, targeting to derive 70% of its digital appliances division revenue from Bespoke AI products by the end of 2025, as affirmed by Saurabh Baishakhia, Senior Director of Digital Appliances at Samsung India.
